So here I am, about 2 months after it was decided I was going to run my very first 5K. The anticipation of the whole race was killing me! I don't know why, but I was so nervous. All different thoughts were going through my head, this is one of the few times I will be running without Summer (who pushes me to the finish every time!) I kept doubting myself. I wanted to finish in under 30 minutes, which was really pushing myself. My thoughts were all over the place. The night before the race I was able to relax. I kept telling myself I am only doing a 5K; Meg, Jessica and Summer are doing a half marathon. I can do this! The morning came and everyone was getting into their "Diva" gear, it came time to line up and I didn't know if I was going to cry or pee my pants I was so nervous. Thank goodness I had Alicia by my side, I think I would have been completely lost! When the shot gun went off I jumped of course, but we were off. I had a little burst at the begining, all the excitment was getting to me! I don't think we said a word for the first 1/2 mile. As we rounded the bend there were the girls cheering us on - what great motivation it was to see them. After we saw the girls we just started talking our way through the race. Slow and steady. There were people on all the turns telling us where to go and motivating us through the race. We got our tiaras and boas - we were almost done! We were close to the finish. I could see the time clock ... we were just over 35 minutes. My goal was to be under 30, but I couldn't have been happier. Crossing that finish line was one of the best feelings. Not to mention there were firefighters and shirtless men handing us roses and champagne at the finish line! At the end I don't know what I was so nervous about because I did it! My next mission is another 5k in a few weeks (to hopefully bring my time down) and then on to the next! The farthest I have gone is 6 miles so far, but this is just the begining!! We can all do it, just put your mind to it!
A big thanks to Alicia for running with me during my first 5K :)
YAY! Awesome job girls!! That Alicia is the best! :) <3
