The holidays are fast approaching and we are less than 7 days away from Thanksgiving and the biggest drinking night of the year "thanksgiving eve"! Today I will not preach the effects of alcohol but simply give you straight facts. The facts are that alcohol is not something to be mixed with a healthy diet and exercise. The fact is that wine and beer contain carbohydrates and calories 5oz of wine contains 110 calories, Beer 150 calories, 60 calories per oz of vodka, gin, rum and liquers? bailey's, etc 100 in one shot which means if you are drinking a mixed drink with liquer in them you have to add the cream, the vodka, and any other mixer which can some times add up to a 300 calorie beverage. Yes can you drink vodka, gin, rum and mix with diet soda or seltzer and "technically" have a carb free drink, why yes you can. Here is what you are missing, while you are not intaking carbs, you are still intaking alcohol. Fact: Alcohol losens inhibitions and increases appetite, so while before you started drinking maybe bread, nachos or wings didn't seem so yummy, now they do and before you know it your "calorie free" cocktail has just allowed you to consume unwanted and unneeded calories. Fact: Alcohol is burned first, meaning that you have worked all week to burn fat and promote fat loss, once alcohol is involved you lose this ability, the alcohol is burned first in which case fat is STORED! Yes stored, it is not burned and the calories you saved during the week and the fat you thought you were losing, is now back where it was on your hips, thighs, butt, arms, wherever fat is stored.
Am I saying never have a cocktail? Nope. Am I saying don't enjoy your life and have a good time? Nope. Am I saying in order to have a great body you can never drink again? Nope again. I'm simply saying that why work so hard and then ruin it for a few drinks? Pick an event or a night out to have a drink or two and make sure that during the day you ease up on calories, carbs and fats to fit these in. There is no need to drink at every occassion or night out. I'm simply saying that alchohol impairs our judgement and we some times see things differently and say eh what the heck I can have a few appetizers "it's not that bad". I'm simply saying that alcohol has NO health benefits! I'm simply saying that most times if you go out and have cocktails you are more likely to miss your workout the following day and you will make bad food choices in the days following.
Drink up? Maybe you'll think twice! I will be adding an attachment with calorie contents of the most popular beverages.
Have a happy and safe weekend :)
